In some areas of the Site, we ask you to provide information that will enable us to process an order, offer services that require registration, assist you with technical support issues or to follow up with you. Generally, Brown Bookstore Technology Center  requests identifying information when you:

  • Place an order.
  • Provide feedback to an online survey or tell us about an idea or suggestion.

To protect  privacy, we have designed the Sites to include certain steps to verify  identity before granting you access or enabling you to make corrections in an account. When purchasing products through the our web site, the order form will also ask you to provide a daytime telephone number. However, the telephone number is only used to quickly resolve questions relative to an order, such as to clarify customer email addresses that are inactive, or entered incorrectly.

At times, we will use a feature on  web browser to send  computer a "cookie". We do not use cookies to retrieve any personal information from  computer. We only use cookies to learn ways to enhance our Sites, and to give you better, more personalized service while in our web site. You can reset  browser to refuse all cookies or indicate when a cookie is sent. However, some functions of the Sites will not function if you refuse cookies. These areas of our web site will have information posted about cookies, and when a cookie will be uploaded to  computer.

Children's Privacy Protection

 Brown Bookstore Technology Center  is sensitive to the heightened need to protect the privacy of children under the age of 13. The vast majority of the material on our web site is not intended for children and is not targeted to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children and, if we learn that we have received personal data from a child, we will remove this information from our database.

Credit Card Security

We know customers are concerned about credit card security. We accept credit cards online via secure setup, but only process them internally at the Bookstore, as opposed to online processing.

 

Sales Policies

 

 

Please review these policies carefully as they are the terms of sale that govern your purchases at the Brown Computer Store. They set out your rights and obligations with respect to your purchases, including important limitations and exclusions, such as those in manufacturer product warranties. Your placement of an order at the Brown Computer Store - in store or online, constitutes your agreement that these policies apply to the order, so be certain you understand them before you place your order.

Although the customer is responsible for directly contacting the manufacturer for warranty service and support for all Non Dell, Lenovo or Apple computer systems or products, a knowledgeable computer store staff is always at hand, to assist with your questions or needs, and can even arrange conference calls with most manufacturers' tech support teams. In fact the Brown community of students, staff and faculty has come to view the Brown Computer Store as an excellent resource for their computing needs.

Returns and refunds

 

The Brown Computer Store wants you to be thrilled with your new purchase. However, given the various manufacturers’ policies imposed upon the Computer Store and in consideration of all our customers, the following are the return and refund terms and conditions for some of our products:

Eligible returns must be accompanied by an original receipt and must be within 10 calendar days of purchase date as specified on receipt. The refund method is processed the same way as the original payment method.

 

Computers. All computer purchases are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Your system may be returned for replacement within 10 calendar days of purchase date on receipt, if diagnosed as DOA (dead-on-arrival) by our service department.  DOA systems must be returned in original packaging and with all original contents, otherwise a 15% restocking fee will be charged; other than DOA your system will be repaired under the terms and conditions of the manufacturer's warranty if Dell,  Apple or Lenovo. Configure-to-order, personalized or other customized products cannot be returned under any circumstances unless such product is DOA.

 

Software.  Unopened software may be returned within 10 calendar days of purchase date on receipt. Opened or installed software cannot be returned.

 

Peripherals. Unopened peripherals may be returned within 10 calendar days of purchase date on receipt. Opened peripherals may be returned within 10 calendar days of purchase date on receipt and will be assessed a 15% restocking fee.

 

Hard drives, flash drives and all Apple peripherals, including iPods are not returnable unless tested defective within 10 calendar days of purchase date on receipt. If tested defective by our service center, the item will be exchanged for the same item or equivalent. If replacement item is not in stock, the item will be replaced within 5 to 7 business days.

 

Check transactions: Purchases made with checks for merchandise over $300.00 will require a 10 business day wait before product can be released. This is a bank wait time for a check to be cleared.  

 

Sales Tax

 

In addition to the price of your purchases, the Brown Computer Store/Bookstore is required to charge you 7% RI sales tax, unless it is being shipped to another state, in which case shipping fees will apply.

 

Tax-Exempt Orders

 

If you place your order on behalf of a tax-exempt organization or individual, please be prepared to provide proof of state tax-exempt status. The organization or individual name on the order must exactly match the state tax-exempt certificate.
